After Dark, the darkest alternative, is joining forces with Merseyside goth night Midian to provide you lucky people with two floors of aural (no sniggering!) entertainment, all on one evening. Due to exciting changes afoot at Hex , we have now taken on full responsibility for running these nights at the venue. Whilst this is kinda' scary financially for us, it also means we have the run of the entire 600+ capacity venue, and flexibility to do fairly much what we like. Mwahaha! *ahem* Each night will retain their individual flavours, but combining them will mean they can support each other.
In order to boost our DJ ranks (as i can't be in two places at once unfortunately!), we've recruited some new blood to help out our regular team. DJ Yanni Oblivion has previously run his successful Dante's Inferno nights at Hex . He'll be playing shock rock, goth, industrial, and j-rock amongst other things. sistercarrion ), and Psychomagnet (Underworld , Jillys) as part of the team.We're also looking to bring in regular scene guests from across the country over the next few months.
After Dark covers the best in dark party music.It tends to be more 'music that those goffs like' rather than a straight ahead goth night. It covers elements of dark indie, goth rock, riot grrl, sp00ky kid, old school industrial, new wave, goth and alternative, and anything and everything inbetween. Sample setlist is here . After Dark is run in the upstairs bar of Hex which has 500+ capacity. There's a full dancefloor, lighting, smoke, as well as a well-stocked bar, lots of seating and a pool table.
Midian is the long-standing Merseyside goth night. It covers goth both old and new, industrial, darkwave, EBM, electro, dark 80's, batcave, post punk, and other such gems. Sample setlist is here . Midian will be held in the black room (100+ capacity) at Hex, which has it's own bar, dancefloor, lighting and smoke, as well as a big screen showing music videos, and films.
Hex is a 600+ capacity alternative venue based in Birkenhead on the Wirral. It's based in central Birkenhead, with very good transport links to Liverpool, the rest of the Wirral, and across the country. There's a car park right outside the venue, with Birkenhead tunnel to Liverpool only minutes away. There's also Birkenhead Bus Station (which has nightbus services), and Birkenhead Central train station. More details can be found from Merseytravel .There are very local black and private hire taxi ranks too, for those who prefer a taxi home. Multimap provides an idea of how close the venue is to major links.Hex also has a large foyer area for chilling out in, as well as clean, large toilets and a cloakroom.
Entry to the whole night, including BOTH floors, is yours for a measly £1 (yes, you read right, one tiny ickle pound) before 10pm, and only £3 after. A positive bargain!
Doors are open 9pm-2am
We're asking for as much support as we can muster on this one, for obvious reasons. Over the next few months we will be monitoring numbers closely. If demand warrants it, there is the facility to move to twice monthly, which we'd love to do eventually. We love this venue, and from what we've heard back already, so do you guys too, so you know what to do :) Over the next few months, we'll also be using this venue for a series of very special events, details to follow soon..
As the nights are combining into one evening, After Dark now moves to Midians' usual slot on the second Saturday of the month. As Simon (Psychomagnet) is away with our friends at Darklands for this date, we have guests galore in the very special form of DJ Assimilate, who people will know better as our spikey friend Kris. We also have a guest spot from Midian founder Tags. Plus we hope to be able to announce yet another guest very shortly.

Date: 2005-08-02 01:45 pm (UTC)The After Dark/Midian dates for November will be the Devilish Presley etc gig on Friday 18th Nov + another gig the day after on Saturday 19th (TBC). Weekend tickets, as well as single night tickets will be available.
There is however a charity all-dayer extra on Sunday 25th September, that will feature (amongst others) Killing Miranda, and 616 abortions... more details on this very shortly :)
