Saturday's Mercy **CANCELLED**
Mar. 18th, 2005 09:22 amMike has just come back from the club after trying to sort things
out with the venue over the double booking that was made earlier
this week, when they booked 3 punk bands into the downstairs floor.
We had 2 options to either cancel or run an event using the 2 upper
floors, while the bands were on downstairs.
We've spent all day trying to work through various solutions, but the
bottom line was we would have to have the noise levels of the music
so loud to try to drown out the bands below us, that it would have
had to have been louder than it was last month. So, using the middle
floor as a social space would mean people would have difficulty in
talking over the music, and the upstairs rope room, even set up as a
limited dungeon space would be drowned out by the music from the
lower 2 levels, meaning play would be difficult.
It would be impractical to set up the dungeon as usual because of
having to use the bar, and people spilling into the dungeon space
with glasses and drinks, as well as the noise from the lower floor
penetrating up to drown us out.
The owner had promised to phone us, and has been unavailable all day
while we've been trying to contact him, so as a last resort at 10pm
tonight Mike was left with no option but to go and find out what the
situation was, and if the bands had been cancelled.
It seems the promoter of Saturday's night gig is a guy who has lots
of gigs there with various bands, and has been using the venue from
when the owner took it over. As he is one of the clubs main sources
of income he felt he couldn't turn him away, and so the bands
weren't going to be cancelled.
We felt we were left with little choice other than to cancel the
night completely. We did listen to what some of you who knew the
score said, and believe me it wasn't a decision that's been taken
lightly.
So, we now need to try and spread the word as quickly and as
effectively as possible, by whatever means we can. Obviously all of
the members can be contacted one way or another, which we can do, but
we need to let as many places as possible that aren't online, as well
as any online communities/boards/lists that the event is cancelled
for this month, and to ask people to just spread the word online and
tell anyone they know who was coming that it's not on.
The owner has taken action to ensure that this debacle isn't repeated
for future Mercy events, and we're really sorry for the
inconvenience this has caused to our valued customers. Normal
service will be resumed on April 16th, and we look forward to seeing
you then.
